Riot Games announced a competitive Wild Rift tournament in early February called Wild Rift Southeast Asian Icon Series 2021: Pre-Season . While the tournament is not over yet, Riot is already preparing the next steps for the development of Wild Rift esports in Southeast Asia . An announcement was recently posted on Wild Rift's official website regarding a new tournament called Wild Rift Southeast Asian Icon Series 2021: Summer Season, and the new tournament will kick off on April 3 after a 5-week regional "Pre-Season" tournament . Wild Rift Southeast Asian Icon Series: Summer SeasonIt will be held for 8 weeks in the Southeast Asian region comprising the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore and of course Indonesia.

For the Southeast Asian Icon Series: Summer Season tournament, the best teams from each region were invited to compete for the championship. Unlike the Pre-Season tournament , the Summer Season will feature open qualifiers giving all teams in the region a chance to compete for a share of the prize pool . Teams that emerged as regional champions with the Summer Season will advance to the Summer Super Cup stage, and in this follow-up tournament, winners from each region will come together to determine the strongest team in Southeast Asia.
“The Wild Rift Southeast Asian Icon Series will be an important foundational step towards building the regional legacy that Southeast Asian players and teams can bring to the global mobile MOBA esports scene,” Riot said in a statement . Chris Tran, Head of Esports for Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan at Riot Games, said: “ We had an exciting pre-season for the League of Legends: Wild Rift Southeast Asia Icon series and saw some demonstration performances from our invited teams along the way. The event is scheduled to kick off on April 3, 2021, with eight weeks of tournaments in the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore . The full list of registration dates, qualifier start dates and broadcast channels for each regional tournament is listed below.
