Valorant launched on Tuesday, June 2, and with the game's official release, version 1.0, comes a brand new game mode. In the interview, he provided more details on Riot's thought process when designing the short but "chaotic" mode called Spike Rush. While Valorant was released entirely from its own beta, Spike Rush was added to what we describe as an early "beta state".
Unlike the default bomb mod, Spike Rush gives a spike to each player on the offensive side, the goal is to plant just one. All agents' base abilities are refilled for free and there is no pre-game purchase phase, so each player is given the same random weapon at the start. On top of that, there are only seven rounds. But to complicate things even more, there are several orbs scattered around the map, giving you different power-ups if you get them. These abilities are not crucial to your agent's abilities and include things like "hyper speed" or a quick weapon upgrade.
A single match of Spike Rush should take around 7-10 minutes to go through and ensure "really long periods of time between some games are seen". Compared to the much longer and more competitive default game mode that can take around an hour to finish, Spike Rush feels like the fast and casual mode players want on paper. However, there is another high-demand game mode that players have yet to access: Team Deathmatch.
