Solutions for Valorant Voice Chat Problem

Some obvious reasons why your microphone might not work properly in-game include the microphone not being plugged in properly, your Valorant settings being misconfigured, or your windows not automatically detecting the microphone.

1) Check if your microphone is working. Plug it into your PC or Phone and do a simple sound test to see if it's OK. If you are using a splitter, make sure the microphone cable is not torn.

2) Right click on the sound icon at the bottom right of your taskbar, click "Sounds", go to "Recording" and make sure the correct microphone is selected by default. Once done, try speaking into the microphone and see if the green bar adjacent to the default microphone rises.

Voice chat issue in Valorant can have multiple causes. Below we have listed a suitable solution for all the problems you may encounter. You may not need to try them all; Scroll through the list until you find the one that works for you.

  1. Check if your input and output devices are set correctly

  2. Let your game access your microphone

  3. Update your sound driver

  4. Reset your game's sound settings

  5. Run Valorant as administrator

  6. Perform a clean boot

  7. Contact Riot Games

Fix 1: Check if your input and output devices are set correctly

  1. In the taskbar, right-click the sound icon and select "Open sound settings".

  2. Make sure it is set to your headphones in the Output section. In the Intro section, make sure it is set to the microphone you want to use.

After choosing your output and input devices, try using voice chat in Valorant to check if it works . If negative, move on to the next fix.

Fix 2: Allow your game to access your microphone

Sometimes, Valorant may not have access to your microphone because the Allow desktop apps to access your microphone option is not turned on. If this is your case, follow these steps:

  1. Press the Windows logo key to open the Start menu on your keyboard. Then click the gear icon to open "Settings".

  2. Click on Privacy.

  3. Select the "Microphone" tab from the left pane. Under Allow desktop apps to access your microphone, click to turn it On.

After completing the steps, try running Valorant as an administrator.

Fix 3: Update your audio driver

One of the most important troubleshooting steps to do when your voice chat is not working in Valorant is to check if your sound driver is faulty or outdated. Especially since you can't remember when you last updated your device drivers as it will significantly affect its performance. There are two main ways to update your sound driver: manual and automatic.

♦ Option 1: Manually update your audio driver

To manually update the drivers, you can go to the computer manufacturer's website or the sound card's website to check for the latest sound driver for your system. If you are using a branded computer, it is recommended that you go to the computer manufacturer's website first as they can customize the driver. Before you begin, make sure you know the computer model or device model and the operating system you are using.

♦ Option 2: Update your audio driver automatically (recommended)

Updating drivers manually can be time consuming and risky as you need to find the right driver for your system. So, if you're hesitant to do all this on your own, get help from a program you trust so you don't have to know exactly what system your computer is running or risk downloading and installing the wrong driver and worrying about making mistakes during setup.

Fix 4: Reset your game's sound settings

If you can't hear your teammates, or if they can't hear you, the first thing to check is your Valorant audio settings.

If the sound settings of your game are not set correctly, you cannot use the function properly. To fix it, follow these steps:

  1. Start your game. In the upper left corner of the screen, click the gear icon.

  2. Click on Settings.

  3. Select Voice > Voice Chat.

Set the output device and input device as the default system device. If it still doesn't work, you can custom select the device you want to use. Then set your Incoming Volume and Microphone Volume to at least 50%. Also make sure Party Voice Chat and Team Voice Chat are On.

The output device is the headphones or speakers that you use to hear the sound. For the input device, you need to select the name of the microphone you want others to hear you from. We recommend that you disable all other audio devices that you are not actively using so you do not accidentally select them in-game.

After applying the changes, launch Valorant and test the voice chat . If it still doesn't work properly, try the next fix below.

Fix 5 : Run Valorant as administrator

  1. Type Valorant in the search box. Right-click Valorant and select Open file location.

  2. When the window opens, right-click the Valorant shortcut and select Properties.

  3. Select the Compatibility tab. Check the box for Run this program as an administrator. Then click Apply > OK.

After applying the changes, try using voice chat to check if it works .

Fix 6: Perform a clean boot

Windows applications coexist with other third-party applications in the Windows environment and share system resources. The game's voice chat may not work if an important resource for Valorant is blocked due to a conflict . It would be a good idea to clean boot your system to eliminate any software conflicts. To do this, follow the instructions below:

  1. On your keyboard, simultaneously press the Windows logo key and R to open the Run dialog.

  2. Type "msconfig" and press Enter.

  3. Click the Services tab. Check the Hide all Microsoft services option. This will help you accidentally disable an important action that you clearly don't want to do.

  4. Click Disable all. Then go to vcg and check.

  5. Click the Startup tab. Then click Open Task Manager.

  6. Try disabling all the programs in the list when Task Manager opens. After doing that, go back to System Configuration and click Apply.

Then restart your computer and this should fix your problem.
