Like Sage , Viper's kit has been addressed by Riot in a number of patches since Valorant's official release. However, instead of nerfing, Viper is getting buffs, remaining one of the most popular Agents in the game.
During Valorant's closed beta , Viper was flagged as a C-tier Agent, and even with constant buffs, it wouldn't exactly be a meta pick.
It was largely the same for Breach , and although hailed as one of the most cracked Agents in the game during the closed beta, it soon fell out of favor as players found it easy to play due to their skills.
With Valorant patch 1.07 , Riot aims to give the two most popular Valorant agents a chance to be picked more often during pro play.
Viper's unpopularity lies in the fact that it needs good team coordination and technical knowledge to be successful. His abilities are like a double-edged sword, and if the player didn't communicate well with the rest of Valorant's teammates, they would hurt their allies as well as their enemies. He was hardly selected in any of the Ignition Series tournaments. Like Jett , he has an incredibly high level of skill, but not as flashy or as satisfying to play. Riot tried to boost it in the 11.07 patch of Valorant.
It can now be placed through spawning barriers during the buy phase of rounds. Toxic Screen now scales up faster over its entire length when spawning.
All smoke abilities decay no longer affects allies.
Viper's lair is now displayed on his team's minimap when deployed.
Being able to set up Venom Cloud at the start of a round and not harming his own teammates with Venom Curtain are some much-needed quality-of-life changes for Viper. However, the pick rate will increase in the next Valorant tournament.
Breach is still a very unpopular Agent, and that's only because of the fact that there are so many counterplayers.
Off-screen flashes now match the behavior of other flashes in Valorant and apply the minimum amount of flashes more aggressively. The load has been increased from two to three. Termination time reduced from 0.6 seconds to 0.5 seconds.
Detonation delay between bursts reduced from 0.3 to 0.255.
Concuss now unscopes players and prevents re-scopes. All crowd control capabilities will be made much more powerful in 1.07, and by minimizing the various counterplay options, Breach could become a highly sought after choice in Valorant's competitive play.
