Today, Rare and Microsoft released a video where the developers of Sea of Thieves discuss various aspects of the game.
We learned that over 11 million players enjoyed the game in 2020, and the community is roughly split between PC and Xbox platforms.
The community is also seeing steady growth thanks to the Steam launch and an influx of players from around the world, including China and Korea.

The developers also announced that while they are proud of what has been achieved with the Arena feature, it will not be developed further and most of the focus will be on the adventure related part of the game.
Instead of monthly content updates, Sea of Thieves will now have seasons lasting three months.
Each season will kick off with new content and new ways to play the game and continue with regular live events that include "hundreds of new rewards", regular quality of life patches, Emporium updates and Twitch Drops.
Introducing a seasonal progression system that includes 100 levels of Pirate Fame and a series of Pirate Trials.
This will allow players to unlock new rewards and "some perks for Pirate Legends" for their pirates and ships.
A Plunder Pass will also be implemented as a premium tier on the Pirate Emporium, providing special rewards and "some perks".
Season 1 will begin in January.
