The newest content from Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege Year 5, Season 2 is live. Following the release of the new Siege update, a brand new limited-time event kicked off on PC , PlayStation 4 , and Xbox One as MUTE Protocol, a refresh of the Secure Area game mode.

MUTE Protocol brings the Secure Area into the future, bringing a sci-fi aesthetic to the 5v5 gaming mode. The attacker must turn off the MUTE Protocol, while the defender must prevent the attackers from succeeding in their task. While similar to the Secure Area, the MUTE Protocol includes a new Morphing feature that apparently allows you to switch between Drone and Operator forms (on the Attack side) or digitally navigate the bulletproof cameras of Watch Dogs (on the Defense side). The mode will expire on Monday, August 17 .

Only 41 of Rainbow Six Siege's 56 Operators are playable, with Twitch, Thatcher, Mozzie, Mute, Maestro, Valkyrie, Dokkaebi, Echo, Goyo, Clash, Montagne, Blitz, and Caveira being shut down for "game-related reasons". Ubisoft did not specify why these 13 characters cannot be played with MUTE Protocol. But while some Operators won't be in limited-time mode, the MUTE Protocol does offer 26 customization items to purchase, including exclusive gear for Jackal, Lion, Ying, Kapkan, Mira, Mute, Oryx, and Vigil. These customization options, along with other "signature items", will be 10% off for Year 5 Pass holders.
