On September 2, 2020, the Government of India banned 118 mobile apps in a rather shocking move that includes PUBG Mobile and PUBG Mobile Lite, two of the most famous battle royale games in India. After the bans, the concerns of PUBG Mobile players have surfaced, wondering if VPN is allowed in the game.
VPNs or Virtual Private Networks mask your IP address and change the location of your device. In simple terms, they allow you to spoof your internet access location.
When the moderator of the official PUBG Mobile India discord server was asked about the legality behind VPNs, his answer was:
"Note that VPN use is not recommended and we lack additional publicly available information on the subject. Other questions on this subject can be directed to customer service."
However, on an earlier occasion, when the same question was asked to a Reddit moderator, ' gotfondue ' replied:
" Tencent's Official Response: Using VPN is not a violation of the Terms of Service. However, we recommend NEVER playing with VPN as it may trigger the use of a third-party app ban."
A few users also stated that they were banned from the game for using VPN .
