Paladins, the free-to-play hero shooter previously compared to Overwatch , is launching PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds-like battle royale mode. The new mode is simply called Battlegrounds and is coming to Paladins at some point in 2018. Battle royale mode is coming to Paladins.
Developer Hi-Rez says it's over 300 times more than a typical Paladins Siege map. Your task in the game is to explore the area and loot their outposts for order. Where Battlegrounds differs from PUBG is that players are placed in rosters and must work together to be the last team standing.
Paladins isn't the first game to add a free battle royale mode. Warface added a similar mode in November, while Fortnite added a free, standalone PUBG-style mode in September. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds developer PUBG Corp said: " We are concerned that Fortnite will repeat the familiar experience of PUBG." said.
It's no surprise that other developers will try to emulate the PUBG formula. The game has been a huge success and has recently had 3 million concurrent users on Steam alone. PUBG was released on Xbox One in December, albeit still in early access . It became a quick hit, selling 1 million copies in the first 48 hours. The game has now sold over 30 million copies on both PC and Xbox One .
Developer PUBG Corp recently said that it wants to bring the game to every platform. Also, the developer revealed that he's been talking to people at Netflix and Hollywood about expanding the game to new mediums.
