FIFA 23 shakes up the franchise with a series of major gameplay changes made possible by HyperMotion 2 . Here are all the big new FIFA 23 features, from Hard Shots to revamped set mechanics .

Football fans are hoping that FIFA 23, the last game in the series as we know it, will make a splash before the EA SPORTS FC era begins. While Career Mode and Ultimate Team will definitely get major updates, it's on the pitch where fans really want to know what's new.

On next-gen consoles, HyperMotion 2 and machine learning technology allow developers to add more than 6,000 new animations captured during two matches and multiple training exercises. The result is in shooting, passing, dribbling, etc. It is a more fluid, more realistic game.

There are also plenty of new additions across all platforms, so even the last generation of players can expect a very different experience in FIFA 23. We've compiled all the important new FIFA 23 game features for you.

FIFA 23: Shot Mechanic - Hard Shot

FOXNGAME

The headline change to shooting in FIFA 23 is the addition of new Hard Shots . This interesting new skill allows players to unleash a devastating effort with extra power and spin while shooting and lead to some memorable goals.

However, this is a risk-reward option, as Hard Shots turn off assisted aiming and must be directed manually, meaning it's much harder to hit the target. They also have a longer arming animation than regular shots, so you'll need to free up space before using them.

Shooting in general has also been revamped, giving players a much more diverse range of options for beating goalkeepers. EA wants every shot to feel unique, so there's more spin and drift that can be applied and the volleys can now land on the ground.

FIFA 23: New Skill Moves

Over the years, skills have become more and more important in FIFA, and players will have even more tricks in FIFA 23. Check out the new skill moves below :

  • Left foot skill moves – Left-footed players like Messi or Mahrez can now use skill moves on their strongest feet, a feature that fans have been requesting for years.
  • Explosive fake shots – Explosive fake shots can be performed by any player with four-star skills and acceleration and sprint speed stats of 85 or higher
  • Roll the ball with the heel - Before rolling the ball in another direction, use the heel to fake a pass before gliding past the burners

FIFA 23: Set Pieces

FIFA 23 brings completely redesigned set pieces into play, allowing players to control their shots and crosses like never before. Corners and free kicks work pretty similarly, eliminating FIFA 22's reticle in favor of a trajectory line that shows where the ball is going.

Penalties have been modified to recreate the intense pressure of a real-life point-and-shooter. Players will now encounter a floating ring around the ball and will need to shoot when the circle is smallest for maximum accuracy.

The movement speed of the ring depends on how skilled the penalty taker is and how much pressure there is on the shot. For example, the fifth shot in a penalty shootout will move much faster than a consolation penalty at the 90th minute.

FIFA 23: Defense

Along with all the new offensive options in FIFA 23 , defenders have also been given some new tools to help them cope. The first is “hard slips,” a more aggressive form of sliding tackle that knocks the ball out of play or sends it back up the court for a counterattack.

A number of new animations have also been added to top defenders, allowing them to extend a leg behind them, poke the ball away even if it's overflowing, giving them "more protection" to stop the ball.

FIFA 23 HyperMotion 2 Game Features (Next Generation)

  • Acceleration
  • Technical Dribbling
  • Goalkeeper

Acceleration

Tempo will once again be a core part of FIFA 23 , but the way the races between attackers and defenders are played has changed drastically. All players will now be assigned one of three archetypes based on their height, agility and strength. These affect how each runner uses their speed, as explained in the official field notes:

  • Controlled – Most players in FIFA 23 fall into the Controlled type as they accelerate evenly in a controlled manner.
  • Explosive – These are shorter and more agile players who can quickly travel short distances and get ahead of their opponents, even if that means slowing down after the initial burst of acceleration. These players are faster to start but their acceleration rates are slower.
  • Tall - These taller and stronger players need a little more time to act, but they can catch up with or even surpass anyone, provided they have enough distance.

Technical Dribbling

FOXNGAME

Technical dribbling or dribbling takes advantage of new HyperMotion 2 animations to make dribbling more responsive and realistic than in FIFA 22. The best dribbling players in the game are now more fluid to make room in the midfield or challenge overly determined defenders.

Players can now even cut their own dribbling animations and move in a different direction, changing their weight to make a small body swipe that's perfect for getting around opposing defenders.

Goalkeeper

More than ever, FIFA 23's goalkeepers will act like their real-life counterparts. If their vision is blurred, you'll see defenders looking around to get a better view, and they may even react more slowly if they can't see the ball until late.

Centre-backs also respond more naturally when they emerge to claim a cross against an attacker. In FIFA 23, both players will be aware of each other and clash in a more realistic way. That means the days of seeing goalkeepers go through forwards to catch a corner must be over.

These are all the new game features we know so far in FIFA 23 , follow our social media accounts to keep up to date with the latest news.
