The Lord of the Rings has inspired a wide range of PC games in almost every genre, from RTS to text adventure, open world game to MMORPG. We can now add the card game to that list: A digital, playable version of the physical Lord of the Rings Live Card Game from Fantasy Flight is coming to Steam in 2018.
Lord of the Rings Live Card Game is the first game from new developer Fantasy Flight Interactive . They'll focus on single player and co-op campaigns rather than the multiplayer action we're used to in most PC card games. In Live Card Games, you expand your deck by purchasing packs containing varying rare random cards. If the LCG is structured, you'll buy expansion packs that contain a fixed set of cards, often surrounding a particular theme or playstyle.
In Lord of the Rings LCG you will lead a team of up to three heroes through a series of different campaigns. You'll battle against computer-controlled decks, and once the game is fully open you'll be able to team up with a friend to take on Sauron's army co-op style.
According to Fantasy Flight 's announcement, the game will enter Early Access next year and be ready for release in five months. For Early Access, you'll need to pay by purchasing one of the three-tier Founder's Packs. However, after the game is released, it will be free to play. You can buy extra cards in the game store. The developer will add new card sets and campaigns over time.
We also have good news for you. You will also be able to buy extra cards with the in-game money you will earn by playing throughout the campaign. That means it won't take long to make money.
Not much is understood from the teaser of the game, but we have put the first screenshot of the game for you below.
