On Twitlonger, Doublelift gives no clear reason to retire. Instead, he discusses his journey. He starts by talking about how he was an unpopular nerd in school and how playing video games helped him cope with life.
Doublelift continues to talk about the humble beginnings of the League of Legends scene and how it has grown and changed with the game. He wanted to be "brave, confident and popular," and League of Legends helped him achieve those things.
Doublelift has won eight LCS Championships and played professionally for prestigious organizations such as Counter Logic Gaming, Team SoloMid, and Team Liquid. While never achieving his goal of winning the ultimate World Championship, he solidified an enduring legacy and made a name for himself as one of the most prolific and recognized esports professionals in the history of the industry.
What's next for him?
Doublelift did not go into any details about why he chose to retire now or what he plans to do next. He said that he just started a new phase in his life. Now the former pro can coach like his former teammate Soren "Bjergsen" Bjerg. He can continue to analyze League of Legends as many pros before him did.
Of course, he could leave the game completely and move on to other things in his life. But considering League of Legends has been such a big part of his life for so long, that seems unlikely. Either way, we'll know their plans soon.
