As promised, EA has revealed a lot more details about the newest series of its long-running Battlefield series , Battlefield V. The WWII shooter is due out for PS4 , Xbox One , and PC , but one of the most surprising things we've learned is that EA is planning to release new content.
During a major promotional presentation , EA announced that there will be no paid season pass for Battlefield V. Instead, the publisher will regularly release content updates for the online shooter.
This is the opposite of EA 's release of additional content for its latest series, Battlefield 1 .
Instead of the paid season pass, EA and developer DICE will offer players the ability to purchase cosmetic items. DICE 's senior producer Andreas Morrel also stated that the studio will offer a buyout option "as in Battlefield" before.
The decision to offer new content for free is similar to the approach EA has taken withStar Wars Battlefront II 's post-launch updates. "Battlefront and Battlefield are basically two different games in their own right, and we build them very differently," Morrel said. “But, of course, we learned by experimenting, as everyone else does, and we want to deliver the best balanced experience possible.”
Battlefield V launches on October 19 for PS4 , Xbox One , and PC viaorigin . It will be available in both standard and Deluxe editions; Those who buy the latter will get access to the game three days early on October 16. Before release, EA will hold an open beta for Battlefield V this year as well.
