Following the release of Age of Empires 4 , developers World's Edge and Relic Entertainment shared the real-time strategy game's roadmap for 2021-2022, detailing ranked seasons , balance changes and updates, including mod support that players can expect in the near future
The first roadmap for Age of Empires 4 appeared shortly after the first post-launch patch; A smaller list of fixes targeting the Xbox Account connection and the Mongolian town center issue that could not be built right next to the opponent's town centre.
The first of Age of Empires 4's 2021-2022 roadmap was the Winter 2021 update, which came with hundreds of balance changes and also allowed players to enable in-game playerscore for both custom lobby multiplayer and skirmish matches on a case-by-case basis.
The update also moved the Chinese Dynasty button to the bottom left corner of the screen, allowing players to view the map after a match has been completed. AoE 4's Winter 2021 Update also brought some additional improvements to the minimap, such as reducing the size of the icons, making the Wonder icon match the one in the HUD, and adjusting the color of certain resources.

The Age of Empires 4 2022 roadmap was updated in March with more information on how the developers are approaching things and what we can expect. First, the updates will no longer be named after four temperate seasons and will depend on ranked seasonal ladder refreshesto better serve the game's global community
The seasons will last "about three months," with the new season starting at least a week after the ladder accompanying update, giving players time to get used to the balance changes. Seasons will be themed and will include something for everyone like new stuff for the competitive experience, quality of life improvements, new content, bug fixes and more. Monthly patches will bring additional balance changes and bug fixes along with larger content.
As for the Season One update, here are the expected changes to Age of Empires IV's 2022 roadmap :
Age of Empires IV Content Editor (Beta) and Mods: The editor allows users to create their own content for Domain 4, accompanied by "in-house mods and tutorials to get you all started".
1v1 Ranked Ladder
Shortcut Improvements: Additional categories, rebinding hotkeys to mouse buttons 3, 4, and 5, binding other commands to Alt and Shift keys, plus new global hotkeys that help you find idle villagers, switch between builds, and more.
Quality of Life Improvements: Global build queue, Patrol movement, a selection of civilian randomizers in the lobby, plus full post-match map display.
MegaRandom, new Art of War challenge, difficulty setting
Balance changes for the Abbasid Dynasty, China, and Holy Roman Empire civilizations
