"The Witcher" TV Series Comparison with Games

"The Series Shouldn't Be Compared to the Game"

Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski has created The Witcher fantasy novel series adapted into famous video games by CD Projekt Red. The books also served as source material for the recently released and hugely popular Netflix TV show returning for a second season in 2021 .

Sapkowski recently gave an interview to i09 about the show and it had some great reactions. When asked to compare the TV show to video games, Sapkowski said he wasn't a great person to ask because the only games he plays are bridge and poker. Also, TV shows and video games cannot be compared as they are so different.

"I can't compare anything to video games because I've never played before. I haven't played any games since I was a kid - except possible bridge and poker. Video games are not for me, I prefer books as entertainment," he said.

“Anyway, I think TV series and video games - none of them - are comparable. They are very different in approach, production and lens,” he added. "You can't compare spaghetti carbonara with a bike. Although both have their advantages and disadvantages."

Also in the interview, Sapkowski said he wasn't very involved in the production of the Netflix show because "I don't like working too much or for too long." And on The Witcher Season 2, Sapkowski isn't getting his hopes up. "Let me quote author Joe Abercrombie, whose books I like: 'Life is basically f**king sh**. It's best to keep your expectations low. Maybe you'll be pleasantly surprised," he said.

The rest of the interview is enjoyable and well worth a read for fans of the show and those who want to read a refreshingly light and dark interview.
