The biggest new addition to Overwatch 2 will be a brand new PvE story mode that will be installed after the first game. During a lineup at BlizzCon 2019 serving in Lucio's hometown of Rio de Janero, he got to the part where he could play in the story. Speaking to Game Informer, lead writer Michael Chu talked about what Blizzard wants to achieve with the Overwatch 2 story and how it will focus on the multi-character perspective.
Chu says the team at Overwatch has always wanted to envision a bright, optimistic future where things are going right, despite all the struggles and the Omnic Crisis. We'll explore which heroes are back and which ones haven't, and the game will look at the new threats they face and how the world has changed since Overwatch was originally founded and deployed.
Chu says players will experience the story "through the eyes of all these characters" and have a different perspective on what Overwatch's role is. It will also focus on the relationships between these characters, exploring how they responded to the crisis they faced and how they came together as a team. It should deepen our understanding of the game's cast. The story section will be exclusive to Overwatch 2, but all PvP content will also be released for the first game. There are many new heroes in development , and efforts to get into Overwatch 2 are the reason early Overwatch updates have slowed down. Overwatch 2 will include much more in-game storytelling. It's scheduled to come to PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
