Following NBA legend Kobe Bryant 's tragic crash on Sunday, January 26 , the NBA 2K20 team and sports franchise fans have launched a series of in-game moves to commemorate the famous Lakers player. Developer Visual Concepts and publisher 2K Sports have updated NBA 2K20 to commemorate the untimely death of one of the greatest in basketball history, Kobe Bryant, with a new splash screen across all platforms commemorating his life.

The official NBA 2K20 Twitter account paid tribute to Bryant in its own message , saying that his "many contributions on and off the court" will be greatly missed. Some developers in the NBA 2K series also shared their condolences on Twitter, with many sharing behind-the-scenes footage. He is commemorated with anecdotes about their meetings and working with the Lakers legend.

Bryant was on his way to a basketball game with his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, and the helicopter they were traveling with crashed unexpectedly Sunday morning in Calabasas, California. Seven more people died in this process. Expected to run a game he was said to be coaching for a game his daughter was playing, Bryant was 41. The cause of the crash has yet to be determined, and reports indicate it could take days for any information to be revealed. Kobe Bryant was featured on the cover of the franchise, most recently for the Legend and Legend Gold Editions of NBA 2K17.
