LoL 10.23 Patch Top Top Lane Champions
This season's best laning champions in singles for League of Legends
Various League of Legends opposing each otherThey have upper corridors. The strength of some varies by commodity, others by matchups. There are three champion types for top lanes that fluctuate as the meta changes: hypercars, support style champions, and split push champions. Splitpushers have a weak lane presence and a weaker ability to deal damage until they get a few items. Once they get some items and are able to battle with their opponents, they can take the towers simply by split pushing, until the enemy team sends force to stop them. Support-style top lanes like Sion, Ornn, and Shen are the strongest tanks in the game. They can trade reasonably good damage with their opponents, but their main strength comes from surviving in lane until they've built enough tank-like items to engage their team in all-out team fights. Top lane hyper-carriers deal insanely high damage in the blink of an eye and can hit multiple targets at once with their damage. This list of top champions can be affected by many things. Sometimes the meta changes for no apparent reason other than players' tastes, but usually there's some sort of balance shift behind it. Sometimes the meta can be difficult for players to follow, so we wanted to take this into consideration for you. Fiora
Pros
- real damage
- mobile champion
- Resistant to crowd control as a core skill
Cons- Weakness in team fights
- Requires good awareness to use W well
Fiora is one of the best designed split push champions in the game, and a good laning phase can easily make you win. He is one of the most talented top laners in the game where you can show off your mechanical prowess. It has risen in the meta as a result of Camille becoming more popular. Fiora could be a great response to the Camille pick, with a highly skillful match between the two sides.
Ornn
Pros- Powerful skill kit
- Free item upgrades
- Can melt fragile champions
Cons- High skill consumption
- mana issues
Ornn is one of the best tank champions to play. The skill kit is good for a tank. It has mobility, burst damage, damage based on enemies' max health points, and lots of crowd control. But the best thing about Ornn are the free item upgrades that are worth 1,000 gold. While you need to reach a certain level to upgrade yourself and your friends' items, this isn't a big deal as Ornn can easily be effective mid to late game.
Maokai
Pros- strong support
- Lots of crowd control capabilities
- Exceptional team cohesion
Cons
Moving away from the Rift for multiple patches, Maokai is back at it. Along with new items and the item structure has been strengthened. The most important empowerment was Bami's Cinder. If you crowd control a champion and Maokai has plenty, the item deals a lot of area damage. It's fairly simple to learn and can also be fun to play because of the way its abilities work. Despite his high mana consumption, he has a great lane phase as he can raid his jungler with his high crowd control abilities. Aim to get some mana items early to solve this or adjust mana consumption.
Malphite
Pros- Great skill kit
- The game-changing ultimate ability
- easy to play
Cons- A pretty basic champion except for ultimate use
- mana issues
Malphite has found himself in a comfortable spot after his last item refresh in League. It makes use of many of the new tank items and has become one of the most frustrating top lanes to deal with as a result. You can easily master it as its kit is pretty simple and doesn't need a lot of mechanical prowess to be effective. You can win the game with a good ultimate at the right time.
Camille
Pros- Effective in 1v1s
- Can go over walls
- The game-changing ultimate
Cons- Commitment to items
- High skill cap
Camille is a strong choice in the current meta. It easily picks out dormant transports and can destroy them in the blink of an eye. While it has some weaknesses such as being dependent on the item and having a high skill ceiling, the glaring advantages of choosing it outweigh any cons it currently has.
